Dental Emergencies
1. Lost Filling--If you lost a filling in your tooth and it is not sensitive, just keep the tooth clean until you can get in to the office. If the tooth is sensitive, go to the dental section of the pharmacy and find a temporary dental filling material (it should be near the toothbrushes) and place as directed. Then call the office when it is open.
2. Broken Tooth--If the tooth is sharp, place a temporary filling as instructed above. If the tooth is broken from an accident, check to see if there is bleeding from the tooth. If there is no bleeding, place a temporary filling. If there is bleeding from the tooth, call one of the doctors immediately.
3. Crown Off--Clean tooth and crown thoroughly. Place crown back on using toothpaste or dental adhesive. Do not chew on it. Remove at bedtime. Call the office when it re-opens.
4. Tooth Knocked Out / Knocked Loose--Call the doctor immediately for instructions.
5. Swollen Gum--If the swelling is localized to the gums only, clean thoroughly with brush and floss and rinse vigorously with warm salt water. Many times a swollen gum is caused by impacted food particles. Call the office when it opens.
6. Swollen Face--If there is swelling into the face (under the eye, under the jaw, etc.), you should call one of the doctors immediately.
7. Toothache / Pain--To alleviate pain, please take the following combination of medicines as long as you are not allergic and able to tolerate Tylenol and ibuprofen: 1000mg. of Tylenol and 800mg. of ibuprofen every 6 hours. If this combination is not successful in reducing your pain after 2 doses, please call one of the doctors immediately. Otherwise, call when the office re-opens.
